A pilot project for the purchase of electric buses and the introduction of a green transport corridor starts in the capital of Uzbekistan, the city of Tashkent, Trend reports referring to mintrans.uz.

The implementation of this project is planned within the framework of the UN Development Program (UNDP) and the ‘Intensification of attracting investments to vehicles with low emission of harmful substances into atmosphere’ program of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

A meeting of the project appraisal committee was held in the capital with the participation of senior officials of interested ministries and departments. At the meeting, it was decided to start practical work on this project.

Within the project, it’s envisaged to purchase electric buses for public transport in Tashkent and the creation of green transport corridors in the city in the form of a pilot project. The project, designed for a period of six years, provides for the allocation of funds in the amount of $3.9 million from donors, the UNDP and the GEF.

Through this project, a significant reduction in the number of harmful substances emitted into the atmosphere will be achieved.
