BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 11. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) announced the launch of the second project to restore the ecosystem of the Aral Sea,Trend reports via the press service of the US Embassy in Uzbekistan.
“USAID will allocate about $1.6 million to combat the negative effects of desertification in the Aral Sea region, which will lead to improved air quality and living conditions, as well as increased resilience to climate change,” the embassy says.
The first project has been implemented since 2021 in the northern part of the Aral Sea in Kazakhstan. Within the framework of the second project, the main attention will be paid to planting plants in the Uzbek part of the Aral Sea.
In addition, USAID will support research and dissemination of innovative technologies for planting and irrigating salt-tolerant crops. Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan have pledged to promote knowledge sharing and join efforts to mitigate the negative effects of the Aral Sea disaster.
