Uzbekistan extends VAT exemption for import of several products

BAKU, Azerbaijan, November 19. Uzbekistan has extended VAT exemption for the import of 23 types of food products till June 1, 2023, Trend reports via Uzbek media outlets.

This applies to the import of meat products, fish, dairy products, eggs, fruits, vegetable oil, and other food products.

Before, Uzbekistan extended VAT exemption for the import of meat, potato, and other products until the end of 2022. On May 5, the president of Uzbekistan signed the law "On making additions and changes to the Tax Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan."

According to the document, for the period from October 10, 2021, to December 31, 2022, meat (beef, lamb), live animals (cattle and sheep), and products made of their meat, as well as their import into the territory of Uzbekistan is exempt from value-added tax.

Previously, Uzbekistan extended VAT exemption for the import of meat, potato, and other products until April 30. The parliament of Uzbekistan (Oliy Majlis) on February 3 at its 23rd plenary session approved a law amending the Tax Code, providing for the extension of value-added tax benefits for a number of food products.

In 2021, the legislative chamber of Uzbekistan adopted a bill for the import and sale of meat products to the country to be exempt from VAT until the end of the year. The main goal of this bill was to reduce the cost of meat products in Uzbekistan. The document proposed to exempt from VAT the import and sale of meat products, animals, as well as potatoes, and frozen fish from October 10 to December 31 on the territory of Uzbekistan.
