BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 12. Uzbekistan has harvested 211,000 tons of greenhouse tomatoes in 2022, Trend reports via the Uzbek Ministry of Agriculture.
The volume of harvested greenhouse tomatoes increased by 26 percent, compared to the corresponding period last year.
According to the ministry, a total of 301,000 tons of agricultural products were harvested in greenhouses of Uzbekistan in 2022, of which 70.1 percent were tomatoes.
The volume of greenhouse production in Uzbekistan increased by 11.1 percent in 2022.
Furthermore, some 3,157 farms and agricultural enterprises are currently engaged in the production of greenhouse products in Uzbekistan. The total area of their greenhouses is 6,300 hectares.
The majority of tomatoes are grown in the Bukhara, Khorezm, Samarkand, and Tashkent regions of the country.
Uzbekistan is an agro-industrial country, with about half of the population engaged in this sector, thus agriculture accounts for a major part of the country's economy.
