BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 14. Uzbekistan plans to develop the jewelry industry, counting on Türkiye, Trend reports via Uzbek media.

The matter was discussed between the Deputy Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan Jamshid Urakov with the head of the Istanbul Jewelry Chamber Mustafa Atayik.

During the meeting, the sides discussed prospects of cooperation for the development of the jewelry industry of Uzbekistan, as well as problems hindering the development of this sector have also been identified.

Following the talks, the parties agreed to on signing a bilateral memorandum, while the Turkish side promised to direct a delegation, consisting of qualified jewelers, craftsmen, and representatives of jewelry equipment manufacturing companies to Uzbekistan to study and provide practical assistance in April of this year.

In January 2023, Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev announced important decisions related to the jewelry industry. According to the Presidential order, the country’s jewelers received new benefits, as the country is looking to boost the development of the sector outside of its heavy industry.

In particular, the Presidential order said jewelers in Uzbekistan will be able to buy raw materials at a discount, as well as they will also receive tax, customs, and banking benefits.

The jewelry industry of Uzbekistan was among the sectors where it is estimated to realize various projects worth $2.6 billion and produce goods worth 4.5 trillion soums ($397 million).
