TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, September 14. Japan has allocated a grant of $2 million for the rehabilitation of agriculture in the Aral Sea region, Trend reports.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Uzbekistan has launched a project for the development of climate-resilient agriculture in the Aral Sea region, which was financially supported by Japan.

The project acts as an interconnected solution to the problems of climate change, food security, economic stability, and the social well-being of the residents of the Aral Sea region.

Farmers of the Aral Sea region in particular will be taught new farming methods, which will allow them to get the most out of their land and generate higher income, as well as help ensure the availability of clean drinking water and sustainable energy in remote settlements exposed to climate risks.

The project will use Japan's experience in the use of innovative agricultural technologies, including alternative energy sources, the development of new products, and the expansion of farming businesses.

The project is planned to be used by more than 376,000 residents of the four northern districts of Khojeyli, Chimbay, Kegeyli, and Nukus, while the number of indirect beneficiaries will reach 1.9 million.

Earlier this year, Japan and Uzbekistan discussed the prospects of expanding comprehensive cooperation in the spheres of trade, investments, finance, and technology. Japan expressed readiness to continue active cooperation, both within the framework of ongoing projects and with the aim of jointly developing new initiatives.
