TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, October 4. Uzbekistan’s Temir Yullari JSC (Uzbekistan Railways) will raise fares for both passenger tickets and cargo transportation services across its extensive rail network starting from October 20, Trend reports.
The tariffs for passenger trains to local destinations will see an increase of 50 percent, while the price of tickets for the Afrosiyob high-speed train will increase twofold.
"The previous increase in prices for railway tickets occurred in 2018 and in 2019 for Afrosiyob high-speed electric trains. Since then, wages in Uzbekistan were increased by 2.4 times, while prices for electricity and fuel, logistics and transport costs have also grown significantly," said the company.
The company also justified the increase with the need to upgrade rolling stock, purchase new trains and modernize train stations.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan also plans to adopt new guidelines for rail freight by the end of 2023. Rules for the Carriage of Goods by Rail of the Republic of Uzbekistan, coming into force on December 24, define the procedure and conditions for the organization of cargo transportation by rail to ensure traffic safety and the integrity of cargo and railway structures in motion.
The document is also aimed at compliance with environmental safety, taking into account the peculiarities of cargo on the public railways of Uzbekistan.
