TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, November 17. Uzbekistan has developed 20 new projects for the construction of power stations within the Tupalang Hydroelectric Power Plant located in the Sariasi district of the Uzbek Surkhandarya region, Trend reports.

During the visit of Uzbekistan’s President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, the Hydroelectric Power Plant (HPP) disclosed information indicating a projected 33.7 percent capacity increase.

This expansion is anticipated to elevate the power plant's capacity to 264 MW, a significant rise from the current 175 MW.

Meanwhile, after its inauguration in 2006, the Tupalang HPP initially operated with only two power units, boasting a combined capacity of 30 MW. In April 2019, the reservoir dam was subsequently heightened by 20 meters, resulting in a capacity increase from 380 million to 500 million cubic meters.

Moreover, employing state-of-the-art technologies, construction and installation efforts were undertaken, leading to the successful integration of two units with a cumulative capacity of 145 megawatts. This advancement elevated the overall capacity of the Tupalang HPP to 175 megawatts, positioning it as the second-largest station in the country, following the Charvak HPP.

The enhanced capability of the plant enables the generation of an additional 467 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, thereby improving the power supply to approximately 167,000 households. This translates to an average annual savings of 107 million cubic meters of natural gas.

Uzbekistan has produced 52.2 billion kWh of electricity from January through August 2023, which is 5.8 percent more than in the same period of 2022 (49.3 billion kWh).

Over 13.06 billion kWh of electricity was supplied to the population through the first eight months of 2023, which is 18.4 percent more compared to the same period in 2022 (11.04 billion kWh).
