TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, January 31. Uzbekistan Railways and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) representative office in Uzbekistan met to discuss the importance of joint projects for the development of transport infrastructure in Central Asia, Trend reports.
The meeting was held on January 30 on the occasion of European and international financial institutions' decision to allocate investments of 10 billion euros to support sustainable transport communication in Central Asia. This decision was made within the framework of Investors Forum for EU-Central Asia Transport Connectivity, which was held on January 29 in Brussels.
During the meeting, first deputy chairman of Uzbekistan Railways Hikmatulla Rakhmetov and head of EBRD office in Uzbekistan Andi Aranitasi discussed matters of further cooperation and planned joint projects.
The implementation of joint projects for the development of transport infrastructure will improve transport interconnectivity between the European Union and Central Asia, contributing to the development of trade and economic ties between the countries.
Meanwhile, Uzbekistan became the leading recipient of EBRD financing in Central Asia for the fourth consecutive year in 2023.
Uzbekistan attracted more than $760 million in financing from the Bank. The rest of the investments ($560 million) were channelled to support projects in Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, and Tajikistan.
