TASHKENT, Uzbekistan, April 20. Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Economy and Finance and the World Bank (WB) signed an agreement on the allocation of a $50 million soft loan for the implementation of the Digital Inclusion project, Trend reports.
According to the WB, the document was signed at a meeting between WB Vice President for Europe and Central Asia Antonella Bassani and Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov.
The project will help Uzbekistan build a digital economy, including through development, attracting investment, and creating new jobs in the IT services sector.
At the same time, the sides discussed issues of deepening bilateral cooperation. In particular, both parties paid attention to Uzbekistan's efforts to implement market reforms and its strategies to respond to the consequences of climate change.
Meanwhile, WB's total loan amount for Uzbekistan amounts to $4.5 billion.
The data from WB shows that $3.5 billion has already been allocated to Uzbekistan, while $567.1 million can still be drawn down. The country also has $3 billion in debt to the bank.
