Head of the Iranian Parliament's foreign policy committee Alaeddin Boroujerdi says the notorious Kahrizak detention center lacked the standards of confinement, reported PressTV.
Rejecting reports that the some of the detainees, arrested during the post-election unrest, were transferred to this center due to a lack of space, the prominent parliamentarian figure said the situation is carefully being investigated and all wrongdoers will be treated firmly.
"Kahrizak was particularly built for thugs and ruffians. It is unacceptable to say that some of those arrested have been kept in the center due to lack of detention facilities," he said.
Boroujerdi said that the 10-member parliamentary committee-- which was set up to investigate the state of detention of the prisoners -- had met with 60 Kahrizak inmates who were transferred to the Evin prison.
He said the committee would look into the complaints of those who say they were subjected to harsh interrogation techniques during their time in Kahrizak.
His remarks come only a week after the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei ordered the closure of Kahrizak which is located in downtown Tehran.
"In the course of recent events, the Leader has ordered officials (to take measures), so that no one, God forbid, suffers injustice," Saeed Jalili, the head of Iran's National Security Council, had said in a statement on July 27.
Some Iranian cities particularly Tehran saw a grisly wave of street violence after demonstrators gathered in thousands to protest the election results. At least 20 people were killed and many others injured when some protests turned violent.
The move came amid controversial reports of the current state of detention of the opposition demonstrators.
