The number of injured during a religious festival in a fire grew to over 870 people in Iran. A total of 633 were hospitalized, Mehr reported citing the Health Ministry.

The center reported that no deaths were recorded.

Earlier it was reported that about 300 people were injured during celebrations in Iran. The Tehran fire center received roughly 200 calls. The holiday's name is translated from Farsi as Red Wednesday. Iranians set bonfires at night and jump over them, as well as blow up firecrackers and fireworks.

The official authorities do not support the holiday, due to the fires and traditional mass opposition protests. Police arrested about 50 people, and are currently guarding the streets.
