Nine members of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) resigned to be able to participate in parliamentary elections to be held next spring, the chairman of the Iranian State Electoral Commission Sulat Murtazavi was quoted by Irna as saying.
About 52 state officials resigned in Iran to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections, Murtazavi said earlier.
Four deputy heads of provinces, seven heads of executive bodies, two chairmen of the municipality, three deputies in various executive bodies are among them. There are also deputy ministers among them.
According to the Iranian electoral legislation, state officials must resign to participate in the elections.
State officials, wishing to participate in parliamentary elections on March 12, 2012, were to submit their statements on resignation until June 30.
