A senior Iranian Foreign Ministry official has called for the immediate withdrawal of Saudi Arabian military forces from Bahrain, Press TV reported.
Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian also urged the Bahraini authorities to stop handing down harsh sentences to detained academics and medical personnel, IRNA reported on Saturday.
Amir-Abdollahian said these people have expressed their demands through peaceful and democratic means.
He also advised Bahraini officials to trust their people, adding that such confidence-building measures would promote dialogue among the country's various groups.
At least 30 people are believed to have been killed in government crackdowns in the weeks following protests that started in the island kingdom in February.
Some other Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates, sent troops to Bahrain in March to help quash the pro-reform protests.
Amir-Abdollahian went on to say that US media outlets are fabricating news stories to support the White House's latest scenario, in which the US has accused Iran of plotting to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to Washington.
On October 11, the US Justice Department accused Iran of plotting to assassinate Saudi Arabian Ambassador Adel al-Jubeir, with help from a man suspected of being a member of a Mexican drug cartel.
