"Iran is capable of designing its own remote-controlled drones," Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said in his interview with Telesur Venezuela TV channel.

Commenting on earlier U.S. statements that Iran will not be able to modify the drone, Ahmadinejad stressed that "the U.S. will see Iran's new capabilities soon".

The U.S. officials expressed scepticism that Iran has the technological capacity to have brought the plane down through hacking and that it was more likely the drone suffered a malfunction.

"With regard to the drone, Iran is able to do a lot more, and go even further. We have already achieved success in this sphere," Ahmadinejad added.

On Thursday Iranian state broadcaster released first images of the highly advanced US stealth drone which was downed through a cyber attack by Iranian military forces as it was flying over the country's airspace.

According to earlier statements, Iranian Armed Forces intend to simulate the design and reproduce the US RQ-170 Sentinel stealth aircraft that they downed in Eastern Iran. A senior Iranian parliamentarian noted earlier that decoding the intelligence in the RQ-170 drone will provide the Islamic Republic of Iran's Armed Forces with vitally important information.
