There will be no wheat exports for Iran in the coming year, Mehr News Agency reported a trade advisor as saying.

Instead the country will focus on exporting wheat and flour goods and products with greater added value, said Akbar Sharifi, advisor to the Government Trading Corporation of Iran.

The private sector has to purchase the wheat it needs from domestic sources and imports to increase the manufacturing of wheat and flour related products.

On December 13th, the managing director of Iran's State Commercial Company said that about five million tons of wheat was added to the country's strategic reserves. Abbas Qobadi told the Fars news agency that 5.38 million tons of wheat has been purchased by the company and over $2 billion has been paid to farmers.
