Iran warns Google
Azerbaijan, Baku, May 17 / Trend S.Isayev, T. Jafarov/
Iran made a warning towards online search giant Google regarding the Persian Gulf, Mehr reported.
Iran's Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast urged "Google Maps" service not to use any other name for "Persian Gulf".
Iran only uses the term "Persian Gulf" and does not recognize the naming when it is referred to as "Arabian Gulf" or just the "Gulf".
Iran does not consider the latter an impartial usage, and views it as an active contribution to abandonment of the historical name.
Google had previously put both Persian Gulf and Arabian Gulf on its Google maps. After May 2012, it has removed both names from the body of water claiming that is the neutral thing to do.
Mehmanparast noted that Google is a toy in the hands of other countries that use alternatives to "Persian Gulf" in their political discussions.
