Iran today has released its domestically made "Tondar" hovercraft into water at Bandar-Abbas port, with presence of officials of country's Defense Ministry, IRIB News reported.

Hovercraft are hybrid vessels operated by a pilot as an aircraft rather than a captain as a marine vessel.

Iran's Minister of Defense Ahmad Vahidi said that this type of hovercraft is a craft capable of travelling over land, water, mud or ice and other surfaces both at speed and when stationary.

Vahidi added that the hovercraft has the ability to operate missile systems installed on it.

Currently, Iran is manufacturing the "Yunis" hovercrafts, which are capable of carrying 26 people (a total of 2 tons of weight). These hovercrafts are can reach maximum speed of 80 km/h, and can go some 600 kilometers without refueling.
