Reformists and conservatives should cooperate rather than confront each other, said the former Iranian President Mohammad Khatami at the reformist camp's congress, ISNA reported.

Khatami compared the current political activity with the falling leaves and called the reformists for revitalization. "Convening of the Coordinating Council of the reformists can correct the situation. It can play the role of a bridge between all reformist parties and organizations", - he said.

According to Khatami, a large congress of the reformists will be soon conducted, which may give rise to increasing their political activities.

Touching upon the upcoming presidential elections in Iran, the former president said that the creation of conditions for the activities of all political groups is a condition of holding elections in a supportive environment.

Mohammad Khatami is from Iran's reformist camp. He was President in 1997-2005. Khatami supported Mir Hussein Mousavi in the presidential election in 2009. Earlier, he criticized the economic, domestic and foreign policy of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

Khatami has said repeatedly that crisis began after the 2009 election continues to this day.

The main opponents of the election in Iran are reformists and conservatives. However, according to information the Iranian opposition media, some parties, groups and individuals from the reformist camp told not to participate in elections.

Iran's presidential elections will be held in June 2013.
