Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Muallim has arrived in Tehran to discuss the two-year crisis in the country, Mehr News Agency reported on March 2.

According to the report, al-Muallim will meet with his Iranian counterpart Ali-Akbar Salehi and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Saeed Jalili.

Clashes between Syrian government and opposition forces have increasingly risen since early 2011, resulting in over 70, 000 deaths.

Over 130 countries recognize opposition groups headed by the The National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces as the legitimate representative of Syrian people.

According to Iran and Russia, the crisis in Syria should be solved in a peaceful way and through negotiations held only among Syrian people.

According to Iran, the Syrian crisis was caused artificially by foreign countries in order to undermine the resistance front against Israel.
