A strayed group consisting of some 40 tourists has been saved in Iran's Lut desert (Dasht-e-Lut) in Kerman province, IRNA reported.

According to the Red Crescent Society's head of supervision and rescue organization department, Mortaza Moradipour, the tourist group went to the desert, as part of celebrating the Novrooz, and got lost.

"The organization's hotline received a call from a mobile phone that belonged to one of the lost tourists. The rescue group was immediately dispatched to the area, and after four hours of searching, the group was located," Moradipour said.

He noted that such cases happen every year, as the tourists frequently get lost in this area, due to being unfamiliar with the territory.
