Passenger capacity of Tehran's Imam Khomeini International Airport (IKA) will reach to 20 millions per year after transferring of Hajj flights from Mehrabad International Airport to IKA, Deputy Minister of Transportation and Housing, Mahmoud Rasoulinejad said, IRNA news agency reported.

During the next two months Hajj flights will be transferred from Mehrabad International Airport to IKA, the report said.

"At the being time, 35 foreign companies using IKA for International flights," Rasoulinejad said.

He expressed hope that more foreign companies would use IKA and volume of international flights would increase by stabilization of the foreign currency rate in Iran, the report said.

By now some 150 to 200 daily flights are being done from IKA to different destinations, which increase by 40 percent in holidays, he added.

IKA Head Morteza Dehghan told Fars News Agency on July 3 that the airport so far has been carrying out about 55 percent of country's international flights.

He added that yearly the airport transports 5 million passengers. In total, IKA has direct flights to 62 destinations, including both inside and outside of Iran.

Imam Khomeini International Airport (IATA: IKA, ICAO: OIIE) is located in Ahmadabad, Iran. The airport is located about 30 kilometres southwest of the city of Tehran.
