Iran may establish marriage and divorce ministry
Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 12
By Umid Niayesh - Trend:
Some Iranian MPs have prepared a draft bill about establishing a marriage and divorce ministry, Iran's Mehr news agency reported on Feb. 11.
The draft bill will be submitted to the parliament's board of directors by next week, Iranian MP, Ebrahim Nekou said.
Nekou went on to say that the ministry may be a suitable alternative to the youth ministry.
The youth affairs and sports ministry only pursues the issues which are related to sport, and neglects the youth problems, the MP said, adding that the marriage and divorce ministry can handle the social and cultural problems of youth.
If the bill is approved by parliament, the youth affairs will be separated from the youth affairs and sports ministry and will be replaced by the marriage and divorce ministry, he remarked.
Iranian Parliament voted for the establishment of the youth affairs and sports ministry in January, 2011. According to the ratification, the Physical Education Organization and the National Youth Organization merged to form the ministry. The legislation has been criticized by many officials and experts in Iran, who claim the convergence of the two organizations is counterproductive.
