By Mehdi Sepahvand - Trend:

Iran’s Deputy Minister of Energy Hushang Falahatian has said during the first half of the current Iranian year (since March 20), 93 percent of the country’s power was generated from natural gas.

Praising the record as unprecedented, Falahatian said the projects to carry gas to more power plants are making good headway, IRIB news agency reported October 23.

“The volume of gas delivered to power plants will hit 900 mcm/d which will be a record breaker,” he stated.

Relying on vast gas resources, Iran has been replacing mazut and gas oil at power plants and industrial units with natural gas over the past few years.

This is while nuclear-generated electricity constitutes close to 1 percent of Iran’s power output and new energy only 0.01 percent.

The installed power generation capacity in Iran is 76,000 megawatts.
