Iran requires its trucks to be renovated, otherwise their entrance into Europe will be prevented in the future, said Director General of Transit and International Transportation Affairs Javad Hedayati, Trend reports citing ISNA.
He noted that Iran needs to take the issue of renovation of its commercial fleet seriously, since Europe is very sensitive to environmental and green transportation issues.
"If we can not provide minimum pollution standards in transportation fleet in the future, we can not interact with Europe and have to use transportation fleet from other countries," he said.
"The other issue is the cost of transportation, therefore if we invest in trucks we can compete with other countries," he said.
"For example, according to an agreement with Eurasia, agricultural products should be transported by refrigerator trucks to Russia and Eurasia but due to shortage of trucks these products are transported by Russian and Azerbaijani trucks that have modern technology," said Hedayati.
"The cost of transportation by our fleet is higher than other countries, therefore renovation of fleet is very important, so trucks are provided to drivers for affordable prices," he said.
