Iran increases guaranteed price for wheat purchase

More than 4.5 million tons of wheat valued at $5.4 billion has been purchased from farmers so far, said the director-general of the purchase unit in Government Trading Corporation of Iran, Trend reports citing ILNA.

From the following figure, about 99.7 percent has been paid to farmers, Morteza Saadatikia has indicated.

The official noted that the volume of guaranteed purchase of wheat has declined and reached 1,000 tons per day. So far the Government Trading Corporation of Iran has purchased 4.528 million tons of wheat from farmers.

The new price for guaranteed purchase of wheat has been increased and approved which would be implemented for the next crop year. The guaranteed price for the purchase of wheat is 75,000 rial (about $1.7) per kilo that has been announced by the Minister of Agriculture.

The new Minister of Agriculture has said that the government bought wheat from local farmers during the current harvesting season was nearly half the target set under its guaranteed purchase price (GPP) scheme.
