Trend:

Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa Al-Kadhimi's visit to Tehran was in line with Iran and Iraq's close relations, said Iran Foreign Ministry spokesman, Trend reports citing IRNA.

Saeed Khatibzadeh has indicated that the Iraqi Prime Minister is the first top foreign official that visited Iran after the inauguration of Ebrahim Raisi as the new president of Iran and good talks were held about cooperation between the two countries and ongoing projects.

"The effort of the two sides is to increase the quota of Iranian pilgrims during Arbaeen day. Iran has approved lifting visa requirement for Iraqi nationals and that its implementation would depend on Iraqi side which is expected to do the same for Iran air travels," he said referring to recent changes.

Responding to whether Al-Kadhim brought a message from Saudi Arabia to Iran during his visit, the spokesman said, there were several rounds of talks between Iran and Saudi Arabia in Baghdad, the Iraqi government had an effective role and from now on if the opportunity would exist we would encourage this role.

Iraq has been trying to mediate between Iran and Saudi Arabia and other Persian Gulf states.
