BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 25. A total of eight radiation centers in Iran will be put into operation approximately by the end of November (2024), Vice President of Iran, and Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization Mohammad Eslami said, Trend reports.

He said that next week, efforts in this direction will begin in several areas of the nation.

Eslami noted that the purpose of commissioning radiation centers in the country is to assist in the production and storage of agricultural products.

"The country produces 130 million tons of agricultural products annually. Out of this, 40 million tons—30 percent—become waste. The establishment of radiation centers will help prevent agricultural products from becoming waste," he said.

The official stated that in Mazandaran province, located in northern Iran, the research was conducted for 1 year, and the result was more than 92 percent.

He added that, in addition, some work has been done in Mazandaran province to filter drinking water.

Meanwhile, Iran claims that it is its natural right to use its nuclear program for peaceful purposes.

Additionally, it should be noted that the director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, stated to the media some time ago that after the failure of nuclear negotiations, Iran came surprisingly close to creating an atomic bomb. No country without an atomic bomb has enriched uranium by 60 percent. Iran has enriched more uranium than is needed to build an atomic bomb. A 90 percent enriched uranium is needed to build an atomic bomb. But technically, uranium enriched at 60 percent is about the same as uranium enriched at 90 percent.

In late 2020, the Iranian parliament adopted a strategic plan to counter the sanctions, citing the non-fulfillment of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) signed between Iran and six countries and the imposition of sanctions on Iran.

Based on the decision of the Iranian parliament, as of February 23, Iran stopped the implementation of additional measures and an additional protocol included in the nuclear deal. As a consequence, the monitoring mechanism of the IAEA was reduced by 20–30 percent.
