BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 27. Iran's petrochemical exports increased by eight percent in value and 4.55 percent in weight during the 2nd month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through May 20, 2024) compared to the same period last year (March 21–May 21, 2023), Iran's Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance and Director General of Customs Administration Mohammad Rezvanifar said, Trend reports.
According to him, during the past two months, Iran exported 8.26 million tons of petrochemical products worth $3.5 billion. However, in the same period last year, Iran's petrochemical exports amounted to 7.9 million tons worth $3.2 billion.
Rezvanifar noted that, mainly during the specified period, 1 million tons of liquefied propane worth $ 559 million, 1.68 million tons of liquefied natural gas worth $553 million, 1.66 million tons of methanol worth $ 395 million, and 596,000 tons of liquefied propane worth $332 million were exported.
Meanwhile, Iran exported 48.8 million tons of petrochemical products worth $19.4 billion in the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). Iran's petrochemical exports decreased by 28.6 percent in value terms and 11.3 percent in weight terms compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2024).
To note, Iran's petrochemical production potential stood at 95 million tons at the end of last year. Iran claims that in the current year (from March 20, 2024 through March 20, 2025), its petrochemical production potential will increase by 5 million tons to 100 million tons.
