Iranian purchases of Turkmenistan-made goods fall

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 12. Iran's imports of products from Turkmenistan decreased by 85.5 percent in value and 87.2 percent in weight for the 1st month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 19, 2024) compared to the same month last year (from March 21 through April 20, 2023), the statistics of Iran's Customs Administration said, Trend reports.

According to the statistics, Iran imported 343 tons of products worth $404,000 from Turkmenistan during the first month.

The statistics indicate that during the same month last year, Iran's imports of products from Turkmenistan amounted to about 2,680 thousand tons worth about $2.8 million.

Furthermore, the statistics add that petroleum coke, cotton, fabric, and other products are imported by Iran from Turkmenistan.

Additionally, Iran imported 31,000 tons of products from Turkmenistan worth about $38.7 million during the last Iranian year (from March 21, 2023, through March 19, 2024). Compared to the previous year (from March 21, 2022, through March 20, 2023), Iran's imports of products from Turkmenistan increased by 37.5 percent in value and decreased by 21.6 percent in weight terms.

To note, during the 1st month of the current Iranian year (from March 20 through April 20, 2024), Iran's imports of non-oil products amounted to 2.4 million tons valued at $2.7 billion. Non-oil imports decreased by 11.4 percent in value and increased by 33.4 percent in weight for the first month compared to the same month last year.

Iran mainly focuses on importing products needed by the country and imposes certain restrictions on the import of products manufactured in the country.
