BAKU, Azerbaijan, October 14. The European Council today implemented restrictive measures against seven individuals and seven entities linked to Iran’s missile and drone transfers to Russia, as well as actions undermining peace and security in the Middle East and Red Sea region, Trend reports.
This move follows a March 2024 warning from the European Council, which stated that any transfer of ballistic missiles or related technology from Iran to Russia for use in Ukraine would prompt swift EU sanctions.
The sanctions specifically target individuals and entities involved in the development and transfer of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), missiles, and related military technology to Russia, aiding its war of aggression against Ukraine. The listings also encompass groups and entities working to destabilize the Middle East.
Among those sanctioned are three Iranian airlines - Saha Airlines, Mahan Air, and Iran Air - known to facilitate the transfer of Iranian UAVs and components through complex international procurement networks to Russia. Two companies involved in the production of missile propellants have also been listed.
Key Iranian officials were also named in the sanctions, including Deputy Defence Minister Seyed Hamzeh Ghalandari and high-ranking members of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) linked to missile development, including members of its Qods Force and Aerospace divisions.
"Those targeted will be subject to an asset freeze and travel ban to the European Union. Additionally, the provision of funds or economic resources, directly or indirectly, to or for the benefit of natural or legal persons, entities or bodies listed is prohibited," the Council said.
