(IRNA) - Member of Parliament and co-chairman of Iran-South Korea parliamentary friendship group, Hossein Hashemi, on Wednesday felicitated former South Korean foreign minister Ban Ki-Moon on his election as new United Nations secretary general.
In a message to Ban Ki-Moon, Hashemi felt assured that Ki-Moon would take effective steps towards bolstering world peace and security.
"The current unilateral approach in dealing with international issues has posed threat to the status of the United Nations as the major world body," Hashemi said in his message for the incoming secretary general, reports Trend.
The veteran MP recommended Ki-Moon to safeguard independence of the world body by harnessing the current unilateral trend being pursued in the world community.
