Average monthly expenses of urban Iranian family hit $887

The average monthly expenses of an urban Iranian family stood at 23.705 million rials (about $887 based on official rate of 26,725 rials per each USD) during the last Iranian fiscal year of 1392 (March 2013-March 2014).

The figure indicates an increase by 31.4 percent compared to the preceding year, the official IRNA news agency reported Nov. 8 citing The Central Bank of Iran.

Food stuff accounted for 26.3 percent of the total monthly spending, 31.5 percent more year on year.

The Central Bank of Iran also put the average housing, fuel, electricity and water costs at $302.7 per month, indicating an increase by 36.4 percent compared to the preceding year (March 21 2012, 2013).

Over 4.6 percent of the spending went to Clothing, meanwhile transportation and health costs accounted for 8.5 percent and 5.6 percent of total expenses respectively during the period.

An urban family's total income in the mentioned year was averagely around $863 per month, which is 32.4 percent more than its preceding year.

The Central Bank of Iran previously announced that the country's urban area inflation rate for the 12-month period to the 12th Iranian calendar month of Esfand (ended on March 21) reached 34.7 percent.

The consumer price index (CPI) also stood at 186.6 units in the twelfth month of the last fiscal year, which was 1.2 percent more than its preceding month, according to the Central Bank of Iran.
