Number of Iran's active internet domains surpasses 500,000

Iran ranks first in the region with the number of active domestic Internet domains, with over half a million, the Islamic Republic Mehr news agency reported Nov. 17.
The country also has surpassed countries such as Singapore, Malaysia, Hong Kong, Turkey, Slovakia, Greece, and Finland in terms of number of domestic internet domains.
Over 575,200 domestic Internet domains have been registered in Iran until now, of that amount .ir ranks first with 566,162 registered active domains.
The .ir is the Internet country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Iran. It is managed by the Institute for Studies in Theoretical Physics and Mathematics located in capital city of Tehran.
Iran's domestic domains also include: .co.ir (3,378 domains), .iran (2,664 domains), ac.ir (1,604 domains), sch.ir(386 domains), gov.ir(342), org.ir(308 domains) and id.ir (315 domains).
The Islamic Republic is among the top four countries in the world with highest annual domestic internet domain growth rate of 45 percent.
