By Fatih Karimov - Trend: Strong winds have brought bird flu from Pakistan to Iran 's northern provinces of Golestan and Mazandaran, said Jamaleddin Javidi, the secretary of the Iranian chicken breeders association.

"Officials of the veterinary organization are making effort to prevent the spread of the disease," he said, adding that the disease has been controlled, Iran 's Tasnim news agency reported June 16.

However, no state-run organization has confirmed the spread of bird flu in the country.

That is while the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) reported on June 15 an outbreak of the highly pathogenic H5N1 bird flu virus among backyard chickens in a village in the north of the country.

Based on the report, the outbreak in Nogardan in Mazandaran province started on June 12. The virus killed 17 out of 25 susceptible birds at the location, and the remaining eight were destroyed, the OIE said in a statement, citing information from Iran's agriculture ministry.
