Iran is interested in using the Finnish companies' capabilities in its oil industry once the international sanctions are removed, the Islamic Republic's deputy oil minister Amir Hossein Zamaninia said.

He made the remarks on the sidelines of a meeting with the visiting Foreign Trade Minister of Finland Lenita Toivakka in Tehran, Iran's official IRNA news agency reported Dec. 10.

Finland is a leading country in terms of environment protection issue as well as oil, gas and petrochemical industry, Zamaninia said, adding the parties negotiated cooperation in oil industry and transferring modern technologies to Iran.

Iran has defined various environmental projects related to its oil sector, hence the capacity of Finnish companies can be used in the projects in the post-sanctions period, Zamaninia said.

The official further referred to the oil ministry's plans for improving energy efficiency rate, saying the issue can be one of the areas for cooperation between Tehran and Helsinki as well.

Toivakka, for her turn, expressed Finland's interest for long-term cooperation with the Islamic Republic.

Finnish companies are interested to cooperate with Iran for long-term through technology transfer alongside with selling equipment, Toivakka added.

Heading a 100-member delegation, representing 70 companies in the sector of industry, which are advanced and all interested in environment, health, forestry and education, Toivakka arrived in Tehran Dec. 7 to discuss boosting mutual ties in Iran's post-sanctions period.

Iranian-Finnish trade turnover accounted for some $44 million during last fiscal year (ended on March 21).

Tehran exported $449,000 worth of goods to Finland during the first seven months of the current Iranian fiscal year(started March 21), according to the latest report of the Iranian customs administration.

Iran's imports from Finland during the 7-month period accounted to $76 million.
