Iran’s iron ore output increases 10%

Iran’s major state-run iron ore producing companies have produced about 15.184 million tons of iron ore concentrate during the first half of current Iranian fiscal year (March 20-Sept. 21).

The figure indicates a 21-percent increase compared to the same period of the previous year, the Islamic Republic’s Mines and Mining Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO) reported.

Gol Gohar Iron Ore Co ranked first among the companies producing 5.94 million tons of iron ore concentrate followed by Chadormalou with 4.82 million tons of production.

Markazi (1.93 million tons), Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company (1.79 million tons), and Sangan (699,400 tons) were other leading state-run iron ore producers.

The Iranian major state-run companies also produced over 16.578 million tons of iron ore during the six-month period, 10 percent more year-on-year.

The aforementioned companies (excluding Middle East Mines Industries Development Holding Company) plus Jalalabad, Mishdavan and the Iranian Central Plateau Iron Ore Mines Complex produced 3.162 million tons of iron ore granule in total, during the first half of the current fiscal year, 12 percent less year on year.

The report does not include the volume of iron ore produced by private sector companies, which in total produce 14 million tons of iron ore annually.

Iran’s iron ore reserve stands at 5.1 billion tons, of which 2.8 billion tons are proven.
