Tehran, Iran, October 23
By Mehdi Sepahvand – Trend:
Iran is working toward creating a leasing system with Germany to acquire airplanes and trains that it needs for its transport sector.
The news was announced by Iranian Minister of Transport Abbas Akhondi, who hoped that this way Iran sees its transport infrastructure refurbished.
“We are looking forward to creating a leasing system with Germany companies, but the private sector should also take necessary steps,” he said.
Akhondi noted that at the ministerial level, Iran and Germany have conducted talks on the issue.
Iran’s transportation system was hit hard by sanctions that lasted until early 2016.
Quickly after sanctions were lifted, Tehran bid for renovating its aviation fleet by signing contracts with Boeing and Airbus, both of which deals have been let down by US-imposed restrictions as well as technical disputes among the sides.
