Indonesia will import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) from Iran in the near feature, Indonesian President Joko Widodo said in Tehran.

He made the remarks during a joint press conference with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani, the state-run IRINN TV reported Dec. 14.

Widodo said the two parties agreed on purchase of over 500,000 tons of LPG from Iran.

Indonesia’s state energy company Pertamina earlier announced that it may sign a deal to import Iranian LPG in 2017 when Indonesia's president visits Tehran.

The LPG imports may total 528,000 tons during next year, the company said, adding that Pertamina plans to import up to 12 cargoes, each containing 44,000 tons of LPG, in 2017.

The Indonesian president also said that another topic which was discussed during his meeting with Rouhani was the issue of investment plan for refinery construction by Iran in Java Island of Indonesia.

Last month, it was announced that the Indonesian government has called on Iran to invest in Indonesia’s oil refinery projects.

"Another topic was construction of power plants and also the Iranian side’s raising our power generation capacity by up to 5,000 megawatts," Widodo said.

"We also discussed participation of state oil company of Indonesia in boosting the production capacity of Iran's Ab Teymour and Mansouri oil fields," he added.

Earlier in August 2016, Pertamina and National Iranian Oil Company signed a memorandum of understanding to carry out a preliminary study on Iran's Ab Teymour and Mansouri oil fields, which contain over 5 billion barrels of oil reserves.

Elsewhere in his remarks Widodo said that 60 businessmen from Indonesia’s private sector, accompanying him in the visit, are expected to discuss mutual cooperation with Iranian counterparts.

He expressed hope that his visit to Tehran will open a new chapter in Indonesia-Iran ties.

Indonesian president, heading a high ranking politico-economic delegation, arrived in Tehran on December 13 to confer with Iranian senior officials.

The trip is aimed at boosting cooperation in oil and gas sector.

Indonesian president is to meet with Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani as well.
