EU countries among top exporters to Iran

European countries have held their position among the top ten exporters of goods to Iran in the fifth Iranian calendar month that ended Aug. 22.

Germany was the top exporter to Iran among the EU countries with $1.044 billion worth of goods during the first five months of the current fiscal year (March 20-Aug. 22).

Germany stood sixth after China, UAE, South Korea, India and Turkey. The European country’s exports to Iran registered a rise by 10 percent year-on-year.

Germany shared 5.4 percent of Iran’s Iran’s overall imports in terms of value in the 5-month period, according to the latest statistics released by the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran.

Besides Germany, Switzerland ($690 million, 41 percent increase), Italy ($511 million, 22 percent increase), France ($503 million, 25 percent increase) and Netherlands ($454 million, 42 percent increase) were the European countries that took place among the top exporters of goods to Iran, in ‎the mentioned period.‎

The UK has lost its position in the list, meanwhile the country was the ninth top goods exporter to Iran during the first four months of current fiscal year (March 20-July 22), with 2.7 percent share of Iran’s overall imports, which amounted to $15.813 billion (200-percent increase).

Iran had purchased 58.4 percent of its imported goods during the 4-month period from five countries – China, the United Arab Emirates, South Korea, India and Turkey.

China was the main exporter of goods to Iran in the mentioned period. China’s exports accounted for 21.9 percent of Iran's total imports in terms of value.

During the 5-month period, Iran had imported $4.256 billion worth of goods from China, indicating a 9-percent increase, year-on-year.

Iran had also imported $3.341 billion worth of goods from the UAE (a 16-percent increase), which makes 17.2 percent of Iran’s total imports’ value.

South Korea and India exported $1.346 billion and $1.266 billion worth of goods to Tehran, respectively.

South Korean exports to Iran indicated a rise of 6 percent, while imports from India registered an increase of 36 percent.

Turkey exported $1.138 billion worth of goods to Iran in the 5-month period, 5 percent more year-on-year.
