By Khalid Kazimov – Trend:

Social Security Organization of Iran pays benefits to 212,000 workers under the country’s unemployment insurance program.

Mansour Atashi, an official with the organization, has said the welfare and social security offices in the country are in charge of introducing the eligible workers, Mehr news agency reported.

According to the official, the unemployment insurance program pays benefits to workers who have lost their jobs and meet the program's eligibility requirements.

Those workers who have become unemployed after completing the terms of a certain contract will not be eligible for the benefits of the program, he added.

There are about 3.3 million unemployed Iranians as the country’s unemployment rate stands at 12.6 percent.

Earlier in June, Iranian parliament’s research center forecast that the unemployment rate in the country would surge by at least 3 percent and maximum 14 percent over the next four years.
