Japan will help Iran to upgrade medical equipment in two hospitals in the capital city of Tehran.

Iran’s health ministry signed a memorandum of understanding with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Feb. 12 ‎for upgrading medical equipment in the Imam Hossein and Arash hospitals, the state-run IRINN TV reported.

Under the agreement the Japanese side will provide Iran with an official development assistance (ODA) worth 1.534 yen (about $14 million).

Within the project, the medical services and equipment needed for early diagnosis and treatment of cancer and cardiovascular diseases will be improved in Arash Women's Hospital and Imam Hossein Hospital.

Earlier this month, Thermal Power Plants Holding Company of Iran signed a finance document with JICA for two power plants, worth $800 million.

Last year, Japan and Iran signed an agreement, under which the Japanese side will provide Iran’s Customs Administration with a $7 million grant to purchase x-ray cargo inspection equipment.
