Domestic routs account for 80% of flights via Iranian airports

Over 455,613 domestic and international flights were carried out via Iranian airports in the last Iranian fiscal year, ended March 20.

The figure indicates a rise by 8 percent year-on-year, according to the latest data released by Iran Airports Company (IAC).

More than 57 million passengers were transferred via Iranian airports in the 12-month period, 7 percent more than the preceding year.

Also 552.3 million kilograms of cargo was transported via Iranian airports‎ in the period, which is 9 percent more compared to the 12-month period of preceding year.

‎Mehrabad Airport in Tehran topped the Iranian airports in terms of flights with over 143,440 flights (17.459 million passengers), followed by ‎Mashhad International Airport (74,000 flights and 10.5 million passengers) and Imam Khomeini International Airport(58,436 flights and 9 million passengers).

Meanwhile, Imam Khomeini airport stood at the first place among Iranian airports in terms of cargo transportation volume. Over 165 million kilograms of cargo was transferred via the Imam Khomeini Airport.

Mehrabad(121 million kilograms) and Mashhad(95 million kilograms) airports stood at next places.

Domestic flights accounted to 371,000 or 81.4 percent of carried out flights through Iranian airports in the period. About 44.3 million passengers were transferred via Iranian airports in domestic routes during the 12-month. The volume of transported cargo in these routes was equal to 325 million kilograms.
