Iran exported over 4,000 tons of fish oil to Azerbaijan through the Astara border checkpoint, Bahram Pourzarb, head of Astara Veterinary Bureau, said.

The cargo, worth $12,000 was shipped from Iran’s northern Mazandaran province, Pourzarb said, the state-run IRNA news agency reported.

The official said that it is the first time that Iran exports fish oil to Azerbaijan through Astara border checkpoint.

Earlier this fiscal year (started March 20) a dairy product cargo also was exported to Azerbaijan and Russia from Astara, Pourzarb said, adding that the cargo included 23 tons of cream and cheese which dispatched via land border to the countries recently.

During the last fiscal year, ended March 20, Iran exported over 700 kilograms of dairy products via Astara border Check point.

Reportedly some 700 tons of cream cheese, 2 tons of cream, 143 tons of trout, and 143 tons of powdered milk were exported to Russia, Georgia and Azerbaijan via Iran's Astara customs in the 12-month period.
