Iran continues import of nuclear reactor parts

Iran’s import of nuclear reactor parts continued in the second calendar month of the current fiscal year, according to a report by the country’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPOI).

Iran imported $144 million worth of nuclear reactor parts in the first two months of the current fiscal year (March 20-May 21), 437,000 percent more year-on-year.

The imported parts made 2.1 percent of Iran’s overall imports in the 2-month period in terms of value.

The Islamic Republic’s nuclear reactor parts imports accounted to $77 million in the first Iranian calendar month (March 20-April 20).

Iran’s import of laboratory equipment for sterilization and pasteurization witnessed highest growth after nuclear reactor parts.

The country imported $151 million worth of these equipments in the 2-month period, 301 percent more, year-on year.

Passenger car parts topped the Islamic Republic’s list of imports on the same span of time. Iran imported $670 million worth of passenger car parts in the period, 64 percent more compared to the first two months of the last fiscal year.

Import of car parts was equal to 9.9 percent of the Islamic Republic’s overall imports in terms of value.

After car parts, corn fodder worth $300 million (6 percent increase), soybean worth $248 million (70 percent increase), rice worth $184 million (9 percent fall), modems and phones worth $183 million (4 percent fall), medicines worth $107 million (19 percent fall) and banana worth $86 million (13 percent fall) were among other main imported goods of the Islamic Republic in the 2-month period.

The average price for each ton of Iran's imported goods in the mentioned period was around $1,291, indicating a fall of 1.6 percent.

Iran imported 5.263 million tons of goods, worth $6.797 billion during the period, which indicates 2 percent and 0.5 percent rise in terms of volume and value respectively compared to the preceding year.
