Agreements reached between the head of Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration Foroud Asgari and his Azerbaijani counterpart Safar include online sharing of X-ray information, solving technical problems with exchange of information between customs authorities, transit of plants and livestock from Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic to Azerbaijan and preferential trade agreements between the Islamic Republic of Iran and Autonomous Republic of Nakhchivan

The two neighboring countries also pledged to work in collaboration to pave the way for round-the-clock presence of transport services and insurance companies at Jolfa and Bilesavar border crossings.

Iran will also help Azerbaijan in the joint fight against drug trafficking by organizing training workshops for Azerbaijan’s customs personnel.

Azerbaijan and Iran have had fruitful diplomatic relations since 1918. Iran recognized Azerbaijan’s independence in 1991 and diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in 1992.

Currently, the two countries are focused on expanding economic ties in various fields, including industry, agriculture, energy, alternative energy and transportation.
