In the first six months (from March 21 to Sept. 22, 2019) of the current Iranian year, Iran exported 56,000 tons of copper, CEO of the National Iranian Copper Industries Co. Ardeshir Saad Mohammadi said, Trend reports citing IRNA.

For comparison, Iran exported 47,000 tons of copper in the same period of the previous Iranian year, Mohammadi said.

In the first six months of the current year, Iran's mines produced over 132,400 tons of copper, which is an incredible record, Mohammadi added.

Iran's copper production is expected to exceed 260,000 tons in the current year, and to further increase in the next year to over 300,000 tons, according to the CEO.

Regardless of the US sanctions on Iran, the country has increased copper exports, Mohammadi noted.

The US imposed the sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and then expanded the list of sanctions in several stages.
