Iran exported fishing products worth about $528 million last Iranian year (from March 21, 2018 to March 21, 2019), said Iranian Deputy Minister of Agriculture Jihad and Head of Iranian Fisheries Organization Nabiollah Khoun Mirzaei, Trend reports referring to the organization’s website.

Khoun Mirzaei said that Iran’s trade balance in this area is approximately $458 million, adding that some of Iran’s fishing products, including the cypriniformes (minnows, carps, loaches, and suckers), are exported to Iraq and neighboring countries.

The deputy minister noted that trout and shrimp occupy a key place in exports of the fishing products.

“Under current sanctions, any amount of shrimp can be grown and exported to the benefit of the country,” Khoun Mirzaei said.

The deputy minister added that Iran faces economic pressure, and, therefore, it is necessary to strengthen local capacity to increase exports and help Iranian economy.

The US imposed sanctions on Iran in November 2018 and expanded the list of sanctions several times.
