The Secretary of the Shipping Companies Association of Iran announced that the Iranian ships carrying essential goods from South America and Iranian oil tankers stuck in Suez Canal traffic

The massive container ship, the Ever Given, that ran aground in the Suez Canal, halting traffic in one of the world's busiest waterways, is still stuck. Meanwhile, at least 160 ships carrying vital fuel and cargo are waiting to pass through the blocked waterway, according to a senior canal pilot at the SCA

Referring to the Suez Canal crisis, the Secretary of the Iranian Shipping Association, Masoud Polmeh announced that the crisis has also affected our country`s ships and tankers.

“The information of the stuck Iranian ships cannot be stated, but they have definitely affected by the blockade of the Suez Canal route,” he said.

He went on to say that the liner vessels must reach their destination ports at a specified time, otherwise, they are required to stop longer at ports until the ship is allowed to dock again.

"Therefore, due to the blockade of the Suez Canal, ships will miss their pre-determined schedule,” he added.

"The damage to the ships is calculated based on the size of the ship,” Polmeh said. The larger the size of the ship, the higher the cost of demolition.

“A usual standard for demolishing a 150,000-ton ship is about $ 50,000 to $ 70,000 a day.”

Referring to the Iranian fleet stopped in the Suez Canal, he said that more than 90 percent of the country's ocean-going vessel (OGV) is in the possession of the Shipping Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“Probably the ships stopped in the Suez Canal are also belonged to the Shipping Company of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Polmeh noted

Regarding the possibility of delays in the import of basic goods due to the blockade of the Suez Canal, Polmeh said that due to the import of our country's basic goods, from South America, these goods arrive in the country with a delay.
