Iran Chamber of Commerce asks for removal of subsidized foreign currency allocation

TEHRAN, Iran, Apr. 28

Trend:

The head of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce said the private sector in a meeting with the president demanded him to remove the foreign currency at official rate (42,000 rials per dollar) allocation in order to accelerate the import of medicine and basic goods.

In the meeting of economic activists with the President, the chamber of commerce pointed to two issues of sanctions and government bureaucracy, the Head of Tehran Chamber of Commerce Masoud Khansari said, Trend reports citing Fars News Agency.

He stated that the guests of this meeting were mainly the representatives of knowledge-based companies active in the fields of medicine, construction, export, polymer, and textile.

Khansari added that the government`s complex bureaucracy, which has now become the biggest achilles heel of the government, has made things very difficult for the private sector.

“The issuance of numerous directives on a daily basis, which in practice is detrimental to business, the private sector does not feel safe to invest,” he noted.

"The coronavirus vaccine was one of the other concerns of private sector activists that was mentioned in the meeting with the President,” he said. “To resolve the concerns of workers and employers, we asked the President to speed up the process of importing the vaccine.”
